The past nineteen years
co-hosting Classic Tracks have been an honour and deep personal pleasure.
Through the program I have made many friends, both at the station and among
listeners. Amongst those are two that stand out, my co-host John Clayton and
fellow Englishman Steve Brown. John attended my swearing in as a US citizen,
and helped celebrate both my 50th and 60th birthdays. Steve and I have shared
nostalgic memories of the UK and London in particular, and he has cooked
numerous English meals that we have shared. He also filled in for me many times
when I was in Europe. These have become close friendships that will weather the
years.
I value the many conversations over the years with Dick,Tom, John
and Jim. I admire their humour and dedication to both classical music and KFUO.
They are all true professionals and I salute them.
Sharing my passion
for English music with listeners has hopefully opened doors to that wonderful
genre and encouraged listeners to wider listening.
One moment I
remember well, a listener called the station and asked "to speak to the guy
with the phony English accent"!!
I cannot express the devastation I
feel at the loss of our beloved station and I know that feeling is shared by
many thousands of listeners not only in the St Louis area, but also around the
world. My son and daughter-in-law listen to KFUO on their computers in Munich,
3000 miles away!
I thank each and every one of our listeners, the
wonderful guests and every one of the wonderful staff at KFUO for letting me
into your lives. I will miss you all, It has been a grand ride.
