Her fame as a composer, singer, African folk instrumentalist and pivotal figure in Zulu culture extends far beyond her native land. The opera by Mzilikazi Khumalo is a celebration of life and the music-making traditions of the people of KwaZulu Natal, the Zulu Nation, set against a turbulent historical background. Many of the songs that I have used I learned as a boy on my mother's knee, says Khumalo. When you listen to the Princess Magogo music, you know that it can compare with the best music in the world - full stop.
